About this place

Little Adam's Peak is the most popular, accessible, and rewarding hike in the picturesque mountain village of Ella. Named for its striking physical resemblance to the much larger, sacred Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) located further west, this smaller sibling offers all the breathtaking panoramic views of the Sri Lankan hill country without the grueling, thousand-step physical exertion. It is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting the Uva Province.

  • The Hiking Experience: The trail begins just outside the main town of Ella and is incredibly easy to navigate. The initial portion of the walk is a gentle, mostly flat stroll through beautiful, manicured tea estates where you can often see local tea pluckers at work. The final ascent takes only about 15 to 20 minutes and involves a well-maintained set of dirt and stone stairs leading to the summit. The entire round trip generally takes less than two hours at a leisurely pace.

  • The Summit Views: Upon reaching the top, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular, sweeping 360-degree view. You can gaze directly across the deep Ella Gap to the imposing, jagged cliff face of Ella Rock, and on clear days, you can see the plains of the southern coast stretching out in the distance. The peak actually consists of a few different ridges, allowing you to walk further along the spine of the mountain for more secluded viewpoints.

  • Navigation and Tips: Because the hike is relatively short and easy, it is a fantastic family-friendly activity. However, there is no shade on the final summit ridge, so wearing sunscreen and a hat is vital if you go during the day. For thrill-seekers, the Ravana Pool Club and the famous Flying Ravana Mega Zipline (one of the longest in South Asia) are located right near the trailhead, offering a high-adrenaline way to finish your trek.
